Like many of you I have heard there was a construction project scheduled for Barnett Park that would disrupt the Park Side course so I decided to find out more information.
I spoke with the project manager for the City of Orlando that will be responsible for the Barnett Park storm water construction and wanted to share what he told me.
The purpose of this project is to create holding ponds and new ditches to slow down the water runoff from the Paramore District. The lake is being polluted and by created holding ponds and new ditches the pollutants can settle to the bottom before the water runs into the lake....
They do not expect the project to start until late fall 2013 or early 2014 if at all. The project has not been funded nor approved by the EPD and is not eminent. If the project is funded and started it will last approx. 6 months. The project will not disrupt the entire Park Side course and any holes that are affected will have temporary holes to replace them. It is my understanding the Park Side course will remain open with 18 holes and the North Course will not be affected by this construction.
If the project is completed as proposed there will be more holding ponds and the course will be redesigned around these new water hazards.
I spoke with Bob Golf (yes that is really his name) at 407.836.6234 if anyone has additional questions or concerns. He is knowledgeable about this project and willing to discuss the plans.
This is my first post on DiscGolfersR.us so I hope it is correct.
