This weekend I went back out to Ammon Ranch for another weekend of great disc golf. The weather when I took off on Friday said showers for Saturday and early showers on Sunday. Unfortunatly for me it was a little wrong, showers turned into pouring rain all day Saturday with not even a hole off. We played 36 holes on Sat. one round forward and one reverse, I know this doesn't sound like alot of disc, but this is Ammon Ranch were talking about here. For anyone who hasn't ever had the chance to play out at the ranch it's one of the longest courses out there with multiple par 4 and 5 holes, that are completely legit. By the time I was halfway through the first round my shoes and socks were completely soaked. It was the single wettest day of disc golf I have ever played, but I still had a great time. Sunday I started out in 7th in AM2, so figuring that I was out of the running, I took back up my Homer Simpson phlosophy on sports. For those that don't remember it goes something like: "When you participate in sporting events, it doesn't mater if you win or loose, it's how drunk you get." And going off that I had a great day of disc golf. The day ended up being great on the weather end, not too hot, not too cold, not too rainy, not too sunny ;) . I played consistantly all day and ended up pulling 2 places down to finish at the top of my group for a 5th in AM2, my best finish in AM2. Then in the raffle I ended up winning a DISCatcher Sport!!! It was a great weekend for me, and becuse I had paid off my boss to work for me on the weekend I still had my usual Monday, Tuesday off. Monday we had more rain than ever recorded for 5/4 in history in Arcata, so I decided to take the day off.
On Tuesday I had a friend come down off the hill, so we went out to the Curtain for a Cinco De Mayo round. We poured up some Margaritas and found our way up to the forest. When I got on top of the stump to tee off on hole 2 I noticed that it was full of water and I had to straddle it. We watched the 8some that was in front of us finish out and walk over to the tee for 3. Then I turned to my buddy and told him play fast so we could get past them, then turning back I gripped into my Star TL and let rip. As it zipped through the trees I was thinking, that will be a good shot if it doesn't hit a tree. Then loud and solid came a ching from the basket, my hollars went out and so did that of the 8some on 3, I could hear how solid it was from the tee and didn't even have to see it sitting in the basket to know it was in there. Lucky for me the group in front of me had a sharpie so I could write it on my disc and get signatures from the witnesses.
