The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

So, it's official, I earned an invite to this year's Amateur Championship in MIchigan.  Dream come true, prestigious tourney in my home state (I currently live in Alaska).  I can fly down, visit with family and friends while playing in a great tourney.  But, of course, my parents fly in to Anchorage on June 10th.  I've already decided to stay here to visit with my parents on their vacation, but I will admit to thinking about it for a couple of days.  I think I'm cursed for big tourneys.  I got an invite to 2009 Worlds as well, but ended up hurting my hand two months before and didn't recover in time.

Anybody else have to make a tough tourney decision like this?

Lots of other big events out there with lots of awesome venues,  it’s great that our sport now has so many choices  when it comes to playing on a big stage…

Mr. Ed, the visit was scheduled a few months in advance for when both parents could get time off from work.  I would have loved the double up, mostly because I would love to be at that event, but the dates are locked in.  So, now I have to work hard to get an invite next year.

Family is always first, however is it a  posibilty to delay your parents visit for another time,or  to all fly back to Alaska together. When in Michigan will you have the time to visit.Time restraints with your folks ability for vacation, are they retired?Talk it over with 'rents, they might enjoy the "double up" time with you.Tough decision, but disc golf will still be here. Will your parents, not to be morbid.I miss both, gone since early 2000,but times with both are memories I still have to cherish.

Bruce, I have great respect for what you've done to promote the sport of Disc Golf.  But, I am going to respectfully ask that you not comment on my blogs again until after you have researched the efforts I have made to promote/grow the sport in Kenai and Alaska.  If you think it is right to invite my parents from West Michigan to visit Alaska then fly to Michigan to play a tournament when they come up, then that is your right.  But please, do not question my dedication to the sport without knowledge of who I am, and what I've done.

Can you imagine qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the 400 meter and then deciding not to go because your parents were in town?  How about the US Amateurs in tennis or golf?  I guess disc golf is just a silly past-time, not the kind of legitimate sport where you do everything possible to play the National Championship if you get in.

Just passed on the Grass Valley Open here in Socal last weekend to attend my sons musical performance at the high school. Would have been my first larger tourney at the AM2 level. Oh Well...
