Disc Golf Course Histories...Do you know one and want to share?

If players build them, will we come? I think so. There are thousands of courses today around the globe and every course has a story behind it. What are those stories? Who built those courses? Did the course thrive and expand, or did it fall into disrepair and shrink away? Is there a disc golf community that owes its existence to a particular person, club or course? I am sure there a multitude of stories about trials, celebrations, environmental battles, etc... Where I live, in few basic words..... we just finished a 12 year political battle and we are still cautious about claiming victory.

Personally, I think it is interesting to ponder the stories behind many of the places I have played. A few of these courses I know well along with some of the early stories/reasons that made the course what it is today. I would welcome more info on the ones I know, but there are those that I do not know the first thing about. What are the "who, when and why" behind all those course beginnings. The beginnings of some of the best courses in the world are a mystery to most of the disc golfers in the world. Someone knows the story.....What is it?

If you have the facts on a course and the "who, when, and why" it became a reality(or not) share it. Try to keep a logical format: Person(s) responsible, Course Name, Date began, location, Course size, etc....But if not, just ramble about the facts you know and give credit where it is due....

Well, I have to say I wasn't expecting the first post to be about that particular issue, but now that you mention it, a course that was planned in Del Paso Park in Sacramento was all about the same things. The local club was trying to help out the community by offering a way of cleaning up a drug user, sexual deviant, trash infested environment. I think the course was never installed because of some environmental wacko that came in at the last minute that had the city by the throat because he had got the council sign a use permit 15 years earlier saying that area of the park would always remain Natural. They put in three years work, poured Tee pads, installed signs and even bought the baskets and all systems were go and then.... Surprise! No other city park in the area has this type of permit with it.

Timmons Park in Greenville SC:
- After the local news did an expose' on gay hook-ups taking place in remote corners of the park (which is located in the middle of an older, established neighborhood) at the urging of residents, the city decided to introduce bike paths and disc golf among other resources to force these "particular practitioners" to move to Craigslist or wherever random gay sex hook-ups take place now.
