The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Do you play disc with your girlfriend/wife or boyfriend/husband?

Shortly after I met my boyfriend in 2006, I discovered disc golf. I had never even heard of it before I knew him. Well at first, I really didn't get it, and after a while, I really didn't like it. He was always going off and playing with his friends all the time, and sometimes drag me along and I would just follow the group. Well about a year ago, he pointed out to me that I was throwing all wrong. I was throwing from the hip and not across the chest. Then I got a lot better at that, and started to love it. Then a friend taught me how to throw side arm and now I really love it!
Now it's one of the only things I think about! This is the first time in a really long time that I've actually really liked something and it's weird. I thank my sweetie for pushing me all this time to stick with it when I was like "eh, whatever" to now when it's my favorite thing! I can't believe that I used to hate this sport ... do you guys try to get your ladies to go out and play with you? And do you ladies go out and play with your guys? Do you gotta drag them along or are they as into it as I am?

My wife was content to observe for several months, but back in the spring I got her started throwing, and she is coming out a lot more. She enjoys it, even though she has never done anything much athletic before. But she is starting to work at it more, and we have more fun now that she comes and plays instead of just coming and walking.

I just posted on your sick birdie blog and then paged back to read a few more of your blogs. My gf plays DG about 2-3 times a month with me. She prefers when it is just us and the course. She gets better each time we go out. She now has her own bag (but now wants a pink Evolution bag) with her own discs (almost all of them are pink, but she is now wanting some tye-dye discs). I started a discussion here at DGRUS about one of her first full round experiences. Below is a link to that thread. Keep discin’!

My girl is not really big into the sport. I had her really into it last year. We went with a group to tower ridge and some jackass kept telling her how to throw even though everyone kept telling him to shut his trap. It did'nt take long before she got sick of it and shoved his ass on the ground and we left. I could'nt get her to play again last year, but I have gotten her one once this year. We plan to hit tower ridge on sat so I'm slowley getting her back into the sport. I've gotten her discs in the past, now I just give her full use of my bag. I carry 14 in my bag so there is plenty for her to choose from.

My boyfriend, Billy "ima4handman" Drake, and I met 7/10/08 at Brahan Spring disc golf course in Huntsville and have been playing disc golf together ever since. We love going to tournaments together although we can't all the time, but we have such a blast because I go off with the ladies and he goes off with the men and then we meet back up 1 round later for suga' and lunch. Check out my blog about the last tournament we were in together in Florence, AL not long ago.

my wife "doesnt get it" either and worse off the she doesnt really like the fact
that i play as often as i do. Its tough to play and not piss her off badly but i have
a new plan. Im gona have her go to the course with me and play a round and
hopefully she will like it and if not atleast it will give her a little insight as to why
i love the game so much. WISH ME LUCK !!

My girlfriend just "doesn't get it". That's fine though, she wants me to play, and encourages me to do it. She just doesn't see what the fuss is about. I will get her out this summer. She is studying to be a doctor, so her time is limited.

My wife used to go, when we all started playing, but as I got better and more serious about competing, she stopped going. She has never been "outdoorsy" or really athletic so I wasn't suprised she didn't stay real involved in it.

My fiancee has come along once. I've asked her many times to go with me, and I even bought her her first discs. I thought it would act as a little incentive (you remember that feeling of holding that first disc you could knowingly call your own!). I'm not sure why she doesn't go with me, but I guess I shouldn't complain. She pretty much lets me go whenever, so she's most definitely a keeper!
