Today I went to the my first discgolf event: Discraft Ace Race @ Edison C.C. Piqua Ohio. I learned about it through the college's email system since I go to school there.
Ususally, between my job and school I don't have a lot of free time. Today I made an exception and decided to give this sport a try.
Today the goal was to get a hole in one (an "ACE"?). The course is around the college's property (which has some wooded areas - which makes it a cool way to get out and enjoy nature while not having to drive to a park or forest).
While the score card was for marking an ace or metal, a few of us jokingly suggested putting a "W" or a "T" since we became very proficient at getting the discs into the trees (luckily no one lost their discs to the slippery hands of the trees :P )
While I didn't get a hole in one or hit metal, I still enjoyed the event today: I kind of thought of it as a differnt kind of a workout, since we were going around the area -- and some of it was flat - and some of it was on hills (kind of like doing a routine on a stairmaster or treadmill).
When the team I was on was done, they headed out. Since it was my first time, I wasn't sure what goes on after it's done: I don't know if there was a get together after the event by the other teams - but when I go to the next one, I'll stay around and see.
I wonder if anyone plays disc golf in the winter around here. I imagine that the discs would be easy to locate since they'd contrast from the snow ;)
