I took today and tomorrow off work to burn my annual leave down to the maximum carry over for the year. I thought that I would call Bill and go to Greer to try the new layout, but it was raining this morning. I called Bill late in the morning and we checked the radar and decided to give it a try in the early afternoon. We arrived and started playing when another car pulled up and a guy started playing. It was Steve O. and he quickly caught us and joined us for the round. Steve is much better than Bill and me but we had a good time playing with him. Since he has played the course before it was good to have him along as a guide. I threw a 64 - +4 on the front and +6 on the back. I birdied #16 with a nice little drive, but struggled overall. I gave away at least 4 putts and had two awful drives. Even as poorly as I am throwing I felt like I should have come away with 6 to 8 fewer strokes.
I really didn't know what to expect from the new layout in Greer, but I think that it's okay. The front nine is a little congested, but it should be okay as long as the course isn't crowded. The back nine seemed to have some longer holes and is spread out better than the front. This isn't a spectacular course but I think that it will be a good course and have some character.
Steve-O seems to be a pretty good guy and was fun to play with. He has a big throw and knows what he's doing out there. I'm glad that he was there and that I got to meet him.
