This was quite a great way to start 09's tourney season. First off a couple of our good friends Sam and Lauren Hefney came up from Huntsville so that fired me up more than anything. Sam and I decided that morning in honor of him coming up I would play in my first Advanced field and we would play together first round at the Sinks. The good karma paid off and we ended up getting to play the whole tourney together because after round 1 I was leading the field with -1 and Sam shot even. Whites to long that's pretty damn good for me. That even with missing the mando on #2 to get a 5 on a birdie hole and losing 2 strokes.
After the first round at the sinks we went to The Chic. I was interested to see how I was going to do since I had never played this course from the long tees and it adds some mileage. Neither had Sam but in 3rd 3 strokes back was Brian Sales and he is a good competitor so I had my work cut out for me. We battled and battled birdies and bogies all the way around the course. It was fun. The we hit "Amen Corner" at The Chic. #15,16,and 17. Brian had gained a stroke on me on 15 which tied it up. hole 16 is dangerous. Its a 289' shot but the Fairway has the Tennesse river to the left and only about 100' fairway wide, if that, to the other side to the side walk which anything over that is OB. And the wind is Always blowing off the river or right towards it. He threw a bomb up there for birdie up the and put the pressure on me. Wind blowing R to L I knew Eagle every time to put it in play which is right what I did too far out to birdie but in play which is all I wanted. Then came #17. This is the signature hole of the course. The same 100' fairway wide but this hole is a big Moon shaped hole that wraps around the river but takes 340' across from one tip of the moon to the other. Brian had the box and decided to backhand hyzer all the way down the moon. Unfortunately he threw it about 320' which doesn't cut it. Then instead of throwing a little Flick in play half way up he tried the same shot and it too went about 320' in the water. Third shot he played safe. I was standing up there having never thrown the shot but I knew I was flicking something stable and throw it hard. I chose MAX and good choice because I bombed it up there across the water looking at birdie. That was the shot of the tourney and ended up wrapping up all up for me. It was awesome my first Advanced tourney and to win it and to Get to play with Sam the whole time. It couldn't have been a better day. Cilecia won her event too against a bunch of girls. Plus we raised over $3000 for our Charity VORP. Here we go for the tourney season in 09' I really wanna show good at some A Tiers I am gonna hit up. Atl open, Carolina Clash which are both top notch and the Blowing green where My goal is top 10 if not top 3. Well thanks for the read. St
