So I decided to play up for this tournament: instead of playing AM1, I played Open. 38 players entered on a cool, dreary, and windy day.
Round one consisted of 27 holes in a mixed layout. I played with Greg and a newer player from another local club. I played very consistently, even putting together 2 separate strings of 3 consecutive deuces. I had two bad holes to finish the round, but still finished 3 under. At the end of rd. 1, I was tied for 5th of 9.
Round two I got to play with Eric "Putting Maniac" and Glen "I throw far" for a round of mixed 18. The round started with Eric birding three straight times quickly grab the lead of our card. I had a slow start, but started picking it round, grabbing several deuces. In the end I shot a 54 to Eric's 52 and Glenn's 56. Eric took 5th overall in Open and I took 6th.
If I would have played Am1 as I normally would have, I would have won advanced by 6 strokes. What I think was more telling is that when playing with better rated players, I played better.
This event definitely boosted my confidence. I was putting better, hitting my lines cleanly, and keeping my head clear and focused.
Up next, Philadelphia Open and Tyler too B- Tiers.
