A big thanks to everyone who came out to the San Marcos Ice Bowl at Montiel Park on Saturday, January 17th. We had a full field of 54 players on a beautiful day, including players from Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri and Sweden by way of Las Vegas. Tony Ferro - there's a Montiel Park-stamped #2 Upshot on the way to you for being both the first entrant and the longest traveller (Tony already uses a #2 Upshot for his fantastic hyzer-flip putter drives).
Scores have been posted on pdga.com, but here's a few highlights:
1000+-rated player Nikko Locastro outlasts local Jonathon Maki to win the Open/Advanced division by one stroke. The final 9 lead card was very exciting, featuring great shots and astute mulligan usage. Nebraskan Anita Jackson was tied with Allison Wylot after the first round, but shaved 2 strokes on the final 9 to win the Open/Advanced Women's title. Scott (the father) Lawn needed a sudden death CTP to beat Alex (the son) Lawn in Men's Intermediate. Arizonan Stephanie Heuther took the Women's Intermediate title by two strokes and San Marcos' Austen Stringfeld won in Juniors.
I'm still calculating costs and revenues, but it looks like we raised over $600 for The Angel's Depot (more, if you'd like to buy a CFR Gator, TeeRex or Starfire) and I have several large boxes of canned good for them as well.
Thanks to all who helped: Carl Renda, Randy Wylot, Monica Watkins, A.J. Risley and a big thanks to the San Diego Aces, Innova and the City of San Marcos!!
