As I write this, I have thrown a driver backhand just as far as any disc I've ever thrown forehand. I've noticed that my form (though far from great) is improving, and I now know how it feels to have a disc come out of my hand 'just right'. All of this, I believe, aided me in completing the best round I've ever thrown. I'm not about to say that shooting a +4 on a 12 hole course is in any way marvelous, but for a guy who could not break +6 to save his life, even on a course he'd played a hundred times, it was a small triumph.
I haven't abandoned my beloved forearm throw, by any means. I have found, however, that it is far less effective for me as a drive than it is as an approach shot. Thanks to a well placed forearm throw with a 172g Champion Spider, I finally made par on a hole that had dogged me all of last year. I'd never had anything better than a bogey there (hole #8, I still hate you..). From what I've witnessed from my own performance in the last few months, I've been doing everything ass-backwards. EVERYTHING!
I suppose the first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one...
