First, I'd like to congratulate Amber on her Advanced win at Bowling Green & taking 2nd (by 1 stroke) at the GBO. & another big congrats to Paige Bjerkaas! She's only 13 & that girl has got game. She won the Advanced women's division @ GBO- great job!
After taking the winter to let my shoulder heal, I finally feel ready to get my game on again. I've been playing solid when I'm practicing, but that game did not follow me to the Glass Blown Open in Emporia last weekend.
On Friday, I played doubles with my friend Billy from KC. We were on until the last hole. There was a lot of OB possibilities on that hole, but we screwed it up without it. Our only double-bogey because of some missed putts, ridiculous! But we tied for 1st & had a blast.
The rest of the weekend was a real let down. I should have been excited about having a caddy, but it was a little weird. He was too quiet. Really, if someone's going to be next to me for 4 rounds of disc golf, some encouragement would be nice. Even when I tried to strike up some convo, he didn't have much to say. AWKWARD! Even still, I should have been able to hold my own; I've been playing this game for long enough. I know the courses, so that wasn't the problem. I had a good, laid back group. My shoulder wasn't hurting, but something was really off. I wasn't ripping my drives- it seemed like they weren't getting out there, then when I did get a good rip- TREENIED. I was getting so frustrated, but I think trying to hold it in only made my game worse. The disc golf gods were like "welcome back, Duh, here's a DFL for ya"
After the tourny, Jay "Yeti" Reading came by to talk to us girls. When I told him how sucky I played, he gave me some good advice. He said, "sometimes when I feel my game is off, I have to take a moment to ask myself what I'm doing wrong." Then he consciously tries to pinpoint & fix the problem. I should have taken that moment. I'm humbled & reminded of what a mental game this is. I had to go back out early this week to prove I CAN play this game. Everyone is entitled to an "off" weekend, right?
