The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

So it was my 29th birthday today and i woke up in the morning I sent out a text saying that i was going to play a birthday round if anyone wanted to go. I got a reply from Paul that said that I am there and asked if i wanted to play for "Bag Tags". He the current #1 and myself the #2. So i gladly excepted the challenge.

Basket # 1. The round started off on a short par 3. Which should be an easy hole for both of us, but it was a pretty Gusty day at Grand Vue. I par and Paul caught a gust an blew past the basket and settled for bogey. Which was an early one stroke lead that I had not expected.

Basket # 2. Is an extremly long uphill par 4 that plays more like a 5. You got two choices out of the box. Play safe and lay up short of the road or make a huge pull and try to run the road at the base of the hill. I chose to run it and made a safe play by the skin of my teeth. Paul chose to do the same and was not so lucky and found himself OB. I played the hole out for a par and Pual another bogey. I'm now up two.

Basket # 3. A nice par 3 with OB to the right and the wind can be a factor. I threw a nice conservative shark to about forty feet. Paul caught a tree right out of the box. I played out to par and paul a bogey. I'm now up three after three. Paul told me I get no more birthday presents.

Basket # 4. A very long narrow par 5. I caught a tree right out of the box. And I mean right out of the box. Paul shot an outstanding shot out to the path and played up the path the length of the whole. I myself had to work to save par and Paul had a beautiful birdie on this hole cutting my lead to two.

Basket # 5. A 235ft tunnel par 3. Paul came out of the box with a beautiful run that went right over the basket and landed in some nasty briars. Mine was running right down the tunnel and caught a small limb and left me in the middle about 80ft out. We Both wal away with par. Im still up by two.

Basket # 6 A fairly simple par 5 if you get out of the box well. Well I didn't and had to settle for a Bogey and Paul did as well.

Basket # 7. A wide open uphill par 3. If you want to ace run this is the basket to do it!!!! Pauls throw was about forthy feet out and mine was about fifteen. I walked away with a birdie and Paul with a par.

Basket # 8. Is a long, narrow, downhill, nasty 788ft par 4. I came out of the box with an ok conservative drive. Paul caught a tree which saved him from going OB. The rest of the hole played out and I made bogey and Paul as well.

Basket # 9. A tunnel par 3 that is all risk reward. You can attempt to run it but if you go long or right you better hope that you are a mountain goat, because you are going for a hike. i came out the box and caught some major tree love!!!! I hit three trees and somehow ended up within ten feet. Paul caught an early tree and finished with a par. I made my Birdie and finished the front nine up 3!!!!.

Basket #10. A tricky little par 4. Paul and myself both came out of the box huge. I had a better look into the basket but clanked off the top of the basket on my birdie attempt. Paul pared as well.

Basket # 11. A open par 4 til you get to the basket where you have a tunnel shot in. I played the high side out the box and laid my second within 5ft for an easy birdie. Paul played the low side and walked away with par.

Basket # 12. The mando hole. Both Paul and myself left ourselves in good position to make the mado. I almose missed it but made a shot that if we told people they wouldn't believe it. My third shot in was horrible and I gave up a stroke as i Bogey and paul pars. Cutting my lead to three.

Basket # 13. An 848ft par 5. Paul made three perfect shots to walk away with a birdie. and I a par.

Basket # 14. Titled Fort Sias or Johnnys Jail. A short par three engulfed and surrounded by small trees. Paul made a birdie and i made a par.

Basket #15. A long dog leg right that finshes uphill par 5. I made an alright throw out of the box that could have been huge. Paul struggled. We both made great second shots. I walked away with a birdie and Paul a par.

Basket # 16. A log par 5 with lots of options. You can play the narrow high road around. Or you can shot low and play the bottom. I myself like to lay up with a short tee shot and try to cut the corner with a huge destroyer. I played and walked away with a par. Paul Hit quite a few trees and walked away with a bogey.

Basket # 17. And Uphill par three that takes a huge pull. OB running all the way up the middle. I threw a huge boss that ended up Basket high but OB. i walked away with a bogey and Paul pared.

Basket # 18. Is a gorgeous moster 1018ft par 5. The view at the top of Grand Vue Park is worth the trip in itself!!! I dint play this hole well but walked away with a par. Paul struggled on this and took a triple.

Final Score for the Birthday Bag Tag Challenge.

Wes 73 +2

Paul 76 +5

It was such an amazing round played by both. Alot of great shots made by both!!!!!!
