Are you a PDGA amateur who is tired of high entry fees and craptastic plastic payouts? Are you a PDGA pro who competes in age or gender restricted pro divisions who is not competitive in MPO? Do you play tournaments in south-eastern Michigan? If you answered "yes" to two of those questions, keep reading.
In the earliest years of this millenium I used to run tournaments in Michigan. When my brother wanted to start running tournaments in Illinois I cut back to doing nothing in Michigan, and I started helping my brother in Chicago.
Back then I was already tired of high entry fees and plastic payouts. So we experimented with trophy-only optional entry fees: as an amateur you could get in for prizes, or not pay the prizes surcharge and just play for the trophies and CTPs. That led to experimenting with Half-In: you could pay half the pro entry fee and if you cashed, take half the cash indicated for that spot. The half you turned down was redistributed to the full-in players in your pro division.
We have also experimented with super-low entry fees and no prizes, like $5 entry PDGA sanctioned tournaments, or $15 entry fee with a player pack. I would like to bring the super-low entry fee sanctioned tournament to Michigan, because all I see here is high entry fees and mediocre amateur payouts. I'd rather pay $5 or $10 and skip the craptastic plastic. But here's the twist: everyone would also have the option to enter into a cash side game where they would be competing against similarly rated players for cash.
If you answered yes to two of those questions and you want to help make this happen, I'm looking for you. Soon I will make a DGRS club page and start inviting SE Michigan players to join. If you see this, maybe you could suggest a name for the DGRS club.
