I am sick and tired of our society concerning themselves with other peoples business. I think Prop. 8 is hurtful and hateful. It shows the doomed path our society is on. I would like to see the word gay removed from the dictionary. Why is so much time and money wasted on something that has no real effect on anybody???

Some of these state mandates are tricky. Saying adults have to be married or related to visit each other in a hospital is a good example. Try this: Boy gets girl pregnant. Girls goes into hospital. Boy goes to hospital. Boy can't visit girl because they're not married. Girl has baby. Boy can visit baby but can't visit new mom because he's related to the baby but not the mom. Defining a word with often religious conotations (i.e., "marriage") affects everyone, not just those that want to live together and/or join in union. Why base anything on what a relationship is called? Married? Best friends? Who cares? Why should the government have any say in this whatsoever?

My choice is what i chose to do;
and if I'm causin' no harm,
it shouldn't bother you.
Your choice is who you chose to be;
and if your causin' to harm, then your alright with me.

Depends on each Individual and what they feel is right for them. This Prop does not effect me though.

Why should they be equal? If the word "marriage" isn't used for these same-sex unions, then that indicates, to me, that they are differnt. Otherwise, call it marriage.

I'll just say I'm a big fan of live and let live as long as it doesn't effect me.
unfortunately separation of church and state is good in theory until people let their religious beliefs influence what should be an issue of basic human rights. peace.

I have a lot of friends that are gay/lesbian, and like them I was fully against Prop 8. I can't belive that there are so many hatefull, predjuduce people in our state. It's posibly becuse of some of the BS that they were spreading about prop 8, like if it didn't pass they would have to start teaching gay marage in school, which anyone who knows anything should know that if a mesure doesn't pass nothing changes. Agrivating, I just got a text from one of my gay friends asking "why the christains can't just leave them alone?", good question.

Personally, I do not understand the hostility. It has been the law for some time here in CA, and the world of the married heteros has not come crashing to the ground . I just do not see the threat to the institution at all. Aren't divorces and cheating already occuring all over the place, aren't they a greater threat?. I realize that there are very different opinions regarding this proposition, but I personally feel that ALL citizens should have the same rights and protections. This is the USA after all. Too bad 8 seems to have passed though. Oh well....

when you say....

"Same-sex couples can gain some priveleges through legal documents granting their partner certain rights concerning them."

the key words are "some priviledge" and "certain" rights... I have no problem with not using the word marriage... call it whatever you want... but the right and protections (especially financial) under the law.. should be equal and they are not...

Personally, I was hoping Proposal 8 would be defeated. It does not make me happy when people try to legislate or institutionalize bigotry.
