I've been doing good in the advanced division of my clubs local mini so I moved up to open, but didn't do to well .
but I went out after work last Saturday and played a round with another player who plays open and did really good. granted he was having a bad day, and I was playing fairly well, but it was a confidence booster.
I feel like I can be competitive at least at that level in the mini's,but now it's time to see if that translates to a tournament. I haven't finished too well in the intermediate division in the few tournaments I've played in last year or so. my rating of 887 would even let me still enter in Rec! but I don't wanna be a 'bagger' so I'll stick with Int till I win a few.
I know I have it in me though. I've learned a lot more in the last few years than I probably have in my first 20 years. And even though I've been told that I'm past whatever my "disc golf peak" may be, I'm not quite ready to start trying the over 40 division yet!! heck, the competition there is just as intense as the open players!
anyways, I just wanted to blog about how psyched I am to be signed up for two tournaments in the next few weeks already, and more to come this year.
I'm hoping at least to play more tournaments this year than I ever have before. And I'm sure I'll keep getting better.
I have my practice basket back and will really work on putting this next few weeks, and also head out to the Rockwall course at least 2-3 times before that tournament.
I have been crushing at Lake Lewisville last few times, but I know the good players will be out for that one as well as Rockwall so I'll try and make it out there a few times before the Dynamic Discs tournament out there for mothers day.
I am so getting psyched for this. it's starting to become all I think about. which is cool. I used to think that way back when I first started playing and was winning mini's all the time.
Sometimes I question If I really am past my prime and can't get better though. I gave up on dreams like being a famous artist or rock star, and realistically one of those will never happen, haha. but I still have the dream of becoming like one of the many greats like Avery, Climo, Doss, Feldberg, Schultz, Rico, McCabe or even just beating some of the local champs like My Hero or Grider or Maceman.( I know, it will never happen, but a guy can dream can't he? )
I have a feeling that dream is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication though. Those players didn't get to that lvl by sitting around and just playing a few minis every other weekend.
also I just bought quite a few disc off ebay recently and a few ended up being from local sellers that I could go pickup and it was awesome talking to jeremy about some disc golf stuff today. it reminded me of what a great disc golf community we have in the DFW area and that even for the few bad apples we have so many people that get involved and care about the people , the courses, and the sport we all love
