The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I run a weekly event for the local club and have not had really any issues until this past week when I had to deal with some casuals (golf bags full of discs) throwing discs at us. Our group started on hole 1 and as we were walking after our drives when another group of 3 individuals came up behind us. As we were making our second shots a disc flew over our heads and landed about 15 feet away. Now, I have been playing this sport for quite some time and I have yet to hear any valid reason for throwing a disc at people. There is none...well unless you are playing GUTS.

I decided to walk back and talk to the group behind us. As I walked towards them I began hearing them saying stuff like "We yelled 5 times if we could play through" and "We want to finish up our round". Once I got there, I confronted the loudest and most boisterous of the three and said, "There is no reason to throw discs at people." and "So, please do not throw discs at people." I then was greeted with further justifications as they reiterated that they yelled 5 times, it might rain, our group was gonna be too slow, this is a public course, this is a laid back sport, how our group could not throw very far... Anyway, they missed the point and showed that they were more concerned with their own enjoyment of the game than anybody elses enjoyment or safety. They never apologized and felt in the right for throwing discs at people.

I was going to suggest to the other group behind us to wait for us to finish out the hole and we would allow them to play through on the next hole. But their attitude really turned me off and after getting yelled at I was not thrilled by some selfish asshats so I walked away.

They played through on the next hole, cussed and yelled the whole time and disrupted an evening of league play. Now, it is good to be an ambassador on the course and try to be nice to promote the sport but there are times when you can not be nice to everybody, even casuals when they disregard common etiquette in a public place. Some of the drunks and bums at Brahan Springs in the past were nicer than these dudes.
