Welcome to the Woods, my friends.

Grand Woods Park is one of those places that you love to hate. I am not just speaking of the course itself, but the atmosphere. On any given day you can see everything that is halting the growth of our great sport. There are people smoking pot right in the runner pathways, drunks put their bottles everywhere except the trash cans. The casual players play in groups far too large for a smooth transition through a round. Over the summer lone golfers were mugged right in the open. Grand Woods Park is also a place that you love. Where else can you meet all kinds of people, all in one place that are all there for the same common objective. To have a good time. To some this means honing their skills, practicing a sport that at which they want to be a great competitor. To some, this means getting away from the house, and having some time to reflect on life. To some it is of less nobel ideals. No matter the reason, people are at the park because they love the park, they love the course, they love little old DJ selling plastic from the same greenish-blue chevy truck that he has had for as long as I can remember, and they enjoy the greatest of sports. It is up to us, the good people that we are, to clean up Grand Woods Park, and all parks that need it. It is up to us to stop people from breaking tables and littering. If some grown adults can't go to the park and act like part of a civilized society, sadly the responsibility falls on those of us that care. I am hoping that everyone that reads this will pledge to clean up one piece of trash that someone else left. One piece at a time we will take back our disc golf course from the hacks.-S"F"D

Yep, some people just didn't get raised right by there moms and daddies. I see it at the more popular parks around the country and it is such a shame. I think it begins when people trash up the picnic areas and then the running trails and DG areas start accumulating trash. It's like people justify their litter since the place is already trashy.

I visited Michigan a while ago in the summer and Grand Woods is a beautiful park, what a shame

well it wasn't anything like that yesterday while buff & I were out shoveling the teepads- some of the largest Ive ever played off btw-which really sucks when you're shoveling as you can imagine...

in my 3yrs of callin it my home course Ive actually seen more than a couple of the casual crowd become a bit more interested and start playing the summer leagues- mostly the tues dubs but also had a couple guys join into the singles league which requires weekly play toward a cumulative average...

our regular can-collectors don't usually dump cans lookin- but people know they're around and so donate their containers by leavin 'em layin around- the trash this past summer didn't seem too bad really- there are cans on about half the holes with fresh trashbags (full of snow) in them right now...
we do have some pretty deep cigbutt mulch goin by the end of the summer however- wish there was a magnet thingy to pick those up...

agreed its a great test of the golf game, I still have blowup rounds and great ones, though its pretty much pwn3d me in tourney play, I did get a (w) there too...

think we just gotta keep -trying to- lead by example

Grand Woods is a really cool course. In nice weather it is overrun by casuals, just like Kensington and Cass Benton. The bad attitude/punk factor is too great at all of them. I stopped playing leagues on summer evenings at public courses a few years ago. The big, irresponsible groups of casuals are obnoxious to wait for.

It is discouraging to pick up litter knowing how fast it gets replaced. The worst are the bottle collectors who dump over a trash can and leave the garbage laying on the ground. I go through periods where I pick up other people's trash and periods where I don't. When the snow melts we will have a new supply waiting for us.
