We had a lot of random, entertaining moments at Worlds:
I have mention the weather. I've lived in Kansas all of my life & was expecting the heat. Instead, we barely broke a sweat all week. Thank you Mother Nature for holding back the 100+ degree temps!
I played doubles with Olav; we met at Am Worlds in Flagstaff in 2005. We had never played together before, but Olav's expectations weren't high. He wanted us to finish in the top 10. The first round, best shot, went well. We saved eachother quite a few times. The 2nd round was the real test; we played alternate shot. This is when Olav & I discovered we have very similar games. Olav pointed out within the first couple of holes why the other team we were playing with was having a hard time; the girl ended up driving from the tee on almost every hole. That wasn't a problem for us because Olav & I both throw about the same distance. I think that is what saved us in the end, having similar games. I must say my game was pretty solid on Saturday. The only errant drive the 2nd round was Olav's; he threw OB on one of our last few holes, and I'll never let him forget it. So we finished in 9th place, just as my partner requested, in the top 10!
After doubles, Deb & I went to go check into our hotel. She used to live in Kansas City, so I thought it was a safe bet to follow her. Turns out she doesn't know KC any better than I do. We started a side competition called U-TURN. For the rest of the week, our buddies had to keep track of how many u-turns we made. It was hilarious; at one point we had 4 cars following Deb & we all had to make a u-turn! She earned a Worlds title: U-turn Champ!
We ended up at a different hotel. The best part about this one was out front it had a Wacky, waving, inflatable arm flailing tube man(picture coming soon). Ashlyn & I wanted to steal it.
Tuesday was the only day it rained while we were there. That also happened to be the day they had a special Ring of Fire for the ladies at Blue Valley. Ashlyn and I went to change and were debating on whether to head to Blue Valley or not. We called one of the outher girls; she said it wasn't raining there (Blue Valley), so we heade out. As soon as we got on the highway, the clouds released the torrential rains. It was pouring when we showed up. The ladies waited for it to let up some & we proceeded with the festivities. Tavish, her sister and crazy John put on the good times. We had music on the loud speakers, free brewskies & everyone won something. There were some great categories: "this putts for anyone who has burned dinner", "this ones for the best hissy-fit thrower" and so on. Of course the rain couldn't hold off. We were all soaked to the bone, dancin & puttin in the rain. It was GOOD TIMES! The next day, some ladies were asking about it. We had to tell them how much fun they missed out on.
My favorite random moment was hangin out with the ladies after our rounds at Pleasant Hill. (o yes, there will be pics). These girls are so darn entertaining. Glad we got to spend some quality time together!
