The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

See just cause its an A tier and the biggest names in disc golf are there does'nt mean people will come to your tourney.
My local club thinks that if you get the names people will come . HOGWASH, Paul Ulabrri has been here ,Nate Sexton has been here those guys are top notch, but my club only sees world champions (kinda closed minded) Case in point just cause a world champion is playing does not mean instant big tourney status. The payouts were just a scratch above the b tiers we throw.

Sure,I live there and didn't play the open weekend. Some of Mark's reasons apply.I had played 3 events in the prior 4 weeks. The entry fee was large, the field strong and my real life was overbooked.I did watch Ken play on sunday.

Agreed, many tournaments, no matter what the tier, can have a hard time pulling in players. The tournament you mention, the Moccasin Lake Pro Weekend is an A tier, but many things contribute to success. In the case of Moccasin, yes there were quite a few current and past World Champions in attendence. This has a positive and a negative effect on a tournament. With Moccasin (which is near Tampa Florida) many of the world class players that live in Florida attend. This does help to pull in some other pro players but at the same time pushes away your "standard" pro players as the odds for winning diminish quickly with the higher level pros in attendence. Another factor is that Moccasin is held at the end of the year and the NT and major events are all completed so the touring pro's have mostly all split back for thier home area.
As with many big tournaments, the cash payout is always important. If the club has added an extra $2,000 to the already required $1,500 cash in the purse, you'll see a few more people show up. "Cash is King" "Money Talks", I'm sure that you have heard these terms, and there is a reason why.
