Another great job yesterday, my friend. But an absolutely monumentous day in the History of Bozeman, and Montana, not to mention Rose Park. You are the humble architect, the leader by example, and the respected center of it all, with much to be proud of.
After hearing your take on Rose vs States, I'm serious about offering to stay home that weekend, in order to keep our BIG MO GOING. I'm betting that Jake, BC, (and Josh) would help do another 6 tee pads for Rose, in place of going to the feared Diamond X. ( As always, I can take a few less pics and offer another strong back in the mix. :-)
We should take a quick straw poll.. if needed.
But again..great job- Mission (Practically) Accomplished!!
First baskets are placed at Rose Park today!! Muth and BTS assembled and installed the first 6 and the remainder will be put together tomorrow during the day. Thursday will be the first fully installed day of Rose for baskets. Still very primitive but will get in shape in no time. I'm sure by 5-6PM all baskets will be in place. OB markers will be installed in the next couple days for hole 1 and Hay bales are showing up for hole 8 on Sat morning... planning on playing some golf for the weekend :)
arriving midday fri

ONE 3 acre chunk for $1 million. Not 3 chunks. Probably going to make enough room for 6 houses for whoever buys it.// Which I suggested might be taken care of by a "court," type of road, rather than a whole street the length of the park.
During lunch I got a call from the head of the nieghboring church , John Gardner. The topic was about a road going in on the West side of Rose. He was calling to ask if we would be against not having a road there. I told him that I was glad he called because, as i had heard it, we needed to call him to aask him not to put one in, if possible. So needless to say, the conversation with him went well.
However, he is getting some pressure from someone/entity in the city to install 25th street! He has had representatives go around and around from paying for half a road, to needing only half a road, to they have to pay for the whole thing.
I told him my take on the issue was whether or not he decided to use the land in a way that might end up requiring a road. But all they have as a plan is to sell off three acres on their northernmost point of land (the corner of Tchsake and 27th..and butting up against our rose park most northWest corner.)
He was very adamant that the rest of the church property was going to be used for parking,. and that they would allow rose park participants to use that parking (they only use it on wed and sunday) He also said that the church would foot the bill for putting in walking trails along the length of rose where we will touch. He was very PRO ROSE PARK.
He is just a bit baffled as to why he is getting pressured to put in a street, when almost all the constituents involved, from CODE to City Parks and Parks Finance dept heads are all for no road. He has a submission for subdivision at the end of this month to parcel off the 3 acres, and wondered if we would do a letter to the powers that be .. stating that the road is a bad idea and the open space with added parking and trails is a much better and good idea. I told John Gardner we would do a letter and maybe even forward rally this to a few others in the city.. to do the same., and hopefully get the powers that be to look at it in this new light.
I even mentioned our concerns about the erosion of the space propsed in the grant application to FWP LWCF. And explained that even FWP LWCF would probably be game to write a letter (Walt T.)
You betcha.. lets knock down all our FEB and MARCH tasks to get the thing into fourth gear by June/July.
I just talked to Matt about any concrete contacts.. and he was void of any.. however i mentioned that he should be mentioning it to anyone in our circles that he is bumping into, presidentially speaking.
Just got the clearance info to Sylvia at A/P of Bozeman for Jesse Chase's $5333 check. And in doing so I proposed the need to use her for the cancelled check issues for re-imbursement. She sounded as if it would be easy. I just email her the dates, the people, and the amounts and she figured it was accessible. I tempted her that the dates maygo back to 2001 or 2002.. and she seemed to feel confident still! Yeah!
Also sent an email to food Co-op about the re-imbursement relationship they / we have with LWCF money- matching their contribution.
Hey, did you see the budget for the "final triggers" and timeline for the end projects (basically a summary of our minutes) that I posted in the HDGC forum? We should tweak that as we see fit.. I will look at it everyday in Feb.,and by March between you and I, many of our self induced CODE board of director deadlines will/ should be met. Which will/should kick all the rest of the project into gear in the later scheduled months, all in response to our early efforts both last fall and soon this spring... I am going to be like an idiot savant on Rose ParkThink within a month. By July I will guess it will probably have morphed into some sort of minor psychotic complex. BTW, I think you gathered that when i refered somewhat euphorically to. " in 6 months we will be "done," I pretty much meant done with our voluntary obligations.. however HUGE they were.. (and that didn't really mean now we can wash our hands of it.) I think we will still be guiding the vision for Rose Park overr many many more years.. even a thousand. After all.. who has thought more about its future than those of us on the CODE board of directors:?
Anyway.. just wanted to say;. peek on the HDGC forum. make any changes you see need to be done on any of those last posts.. and H.O.E. More so, HEAVE H.O.E.!
we are doing 2 rounds of 18 at pioneer park. we will be playing the double course, (tee of 1- pin of 2 ect...) plus 6 original holes, down the alley... to make an 18! sweet layout, free beer, and LOTS of sweet prizes!!!! hope you can make it!!
Yes, I think it could be beneficial for us to huddle and scour over that budget one more time to insure that we are not overlooking some gaping expense(s?), before pulling these last few triggers. I must say I am excited to see the HHP anchored into Rose (for what is sure to be a long and prosperous model for disc sports and their communities).. along with those iconic tees and powder orange baskets you have in mind, my friend. Let's huddle up!
By the way, I suggested to HDGC President that all parts and parcels of HDGC business does not need a single person to take on each individual position. IE VP, Treas, Sect and Pres can all be handled by one or two people -now.
You might be interested to know, that I also suggested it might be smarter now for HDGC 'business' to be run by a Board-like group, exactly like 'we three amigos' do (very effectively) for Course Of DISCovery.. and then, from the start of Rose Park, he could more easily gather hords of college age members, many of whom would be chomping at the bit to step into all the official positions -if desired- and he could still maintain the board. If he opts to go that route, I could volunteer as a Board member, if requested, and just be in the loop when more heads are better than one
But I also made it equally clear that we have set up CODE exactly the way it is -to AVOID- all the red tape b.s. that he is, and has been, experiencing. I'm not interested in sidestepping it with CODE, just to jump into it headfirst with HDGC. So there is, in my opinion, great wisdom in how we have Course Of DISCovery set up.
On that note, we (CODE) should huddle one more time with the City guys and identify the game plan for this Spring before pulling the trigger on the final palns for Rose, eh?
