I would like to share some info with anyone who cares.
It is very unlikely that the Poison Ivy Open will take place this year, or possibly ever again in Bear Creek Park.
This all due to the Complete Unwillingness of the golfers that regularly play that course to behave in an acceptable manner in the eyes of the neighborhood assn. of the neighborhood that borders the park.
In spite of all the warnings and the fact that several people have gotten in trouble and arrested for there illegal habits. They feel they have the right to continue this activity as they play the park. I am sure everyone who plays there at all is aware of what I am referring to.
The neighbors now hate disc golfers so much they have bypassed the parks department with their complaints, and have taken it directly to the city council.
The result is this, it is now Grapevine City Policy that any organized disc golf tournament (I don't think this applies to mini's) run in that park must have 2 Grapevine Police Officers on duty in the park for the duration of the event at the expense of the event. So that means $60 per hour for the entire day. In this case it will be a minimum of $660 per day.
So unless some of you that "Don't Care About the Money" want to pony up, the event will not happen. This is very unfortunate, but nothing can be done at this point to change the actions of our friends. We all just get to live with it.
continued below.... (I did it backwards the first time)
Since everyone knows that "All Mace Cares about is the money" you can all see how this will be detrimental to the overall success of the event. Because if that is part of the expense of the event, you the player that participates in that event will have to pay a police fee out of your entry. And BTW, all of you care about the money everyday you go to work. Why should I be singled out as a "Bad Guy" because you can all see me work? But that is another topic all together.
It is very unfortunate that this has come to pass, but we can only blame ourselves that it happened. I really don't need to say this, but this is just another issue in a very long list of things we have done to ourselves so to speak. This is not going to change until our mindset changes. We have to behave ourselves, like it or not. Not one of us has the right to break the law. We also don't have the right to be a perceived bad influence in a park.
As for the course itself and the rumors surrounding it. There is a very real possibility that it will not be there one year from now. I have this info directly from the mouth of the Director of the Grapevine Parks Department. He has told me that he doesn't want it pulled but he is tired of fighting this fight. He was one of our biggest advocates amongst Parks Directors in the region 10 years ago, but now he doesn't to be involved in the fight anymore. This is what we have done to him and ourselves.

Very unfortunate for us all.
