I just recently started throwing backhand. I usually throw sidearm. Any suggestions how I can improve my distance.

Comment by MonTTy #794 on April 8, 2009 at 7:12pm: One thing I noticed is that you don't bend your elbow much thru the shot and you whip your arm around in a big sweep. Its hard to get distance this way. Its hard to explain but think of the backhand more as pulling the disc thru your chest rather than slinging it around. Reach back with a straight arm then really bend the elbow across your chest as you PULL it thru, then just follow thru naturally. I'll try to find some pics to demonstrate.

Below are some pics of Angela Tchiggfrie that show what I meant on my earlier comment. You really see how she gets the disc back with a straight arm then PULLS it thru right across her chest bending her elbow quite a bit. This produces a nice snap and easy distance

Comment by Yeddie VanHalen on April 6, 2009 at 10:17am: I think you meant you are throwing back-hand now after mostly throwing sidearm (sometimes called forehand). After learning the hard way (& now paying for it), I suggest finding a pro player to help develop your style. I didn't really have any good teachers so learned on my own. Now my form is so messed up I have to re-learn everything all over again. If I ever had it to do over again I would've asked a pro for help. Try to learn the right way & then build off of that by lots of practice (o boy, lots of fun)
