The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Here are a few quick highlights from the first event held on the new Chuck D. Memorial course at Independence Lake park in Washtenaw Co., MI. Highlights include an awesome jump putt by Mike Henry (off of a log!) some sweet drives by Al Sugar Schack, plenty of wind, a few wet discs, and some antics on the play structures. Eventually we'll boil down our ninety minutes of footage and tell the full story of the event in a future episode of Disc Golf Live video magazine.

matt, yes this is a seasonal course(picnic course).....sleeved for play in the fall, winter, and spring....too many holes along the water and would be dangerous for the sungazers during the summer. there was a temporary course played as well.... the Chuck Drukis memorial course which utilizes land further from the lake....we used temp baskets to play it this weekend. Most of the holes will remain for a permanent course, using player feedback and input the layout will probably be tweaked....in the very near future the course will receive permanent status with concrete pads and the orange mach IIIs currently on the picnic course(soon to be pulled) will be moved over.

hope that clears it up....you would have loved LOCO IV...hope life is treating you well on that other penisula!!!

Why are the playgrounds so close to the play of the course? Is this a temp layout during the "off season" for the playground?

The figure seen running for life was Kirk Haggadone, one of the four guys on the second card. He was checking out the action on the top card and got a little more than he expected. He got a good chuckle out of the shot and let us know that it had gone down the slide. Wacky.

Nice jump putt and like the shot of the kid running for cover by the slide

No doubt! Mike said several times earlier in the day how much he loved when the camera was on (contrary to most folks, who get a bit more puckered than usual...) His putt proved his point.

Fun event. I don't think the Picnic course will ever be windless.
