75 Holes and my very first ACE!

Went to Boiling Springs SC with the dog today and was there before 10am. I wanted to get some practice in before the first-ever PDGA event on that relatively new course coming up on July 26th. Here's the link to the flyer- http://scdgo.net/2008_hub_city_challenge_flyer03.pdf

I had hoped one my regular partners would make the trip, but because they couldn't I think I got in a lot more golf than I would have- there are 19 holes out there so 3 times around was 57 then stopped by my local course after making the 40 min drive back and getting something to eat. Too much daylight left to waste and nothing on TV so I ran into one of the local Open players and went around 18 more. The incredible part was that I still had some arm strength and didn't shoot half bad, even ended up with a birdie on my 75th hole of the day.

DC, thanks for giving me some mojo back!! I hit my first ace on #8 ever after a quick lunch with some of the parks guys who were getting things cleaned up for the tournament. Playing from the short tee you can't see the basket unless you step off the pad and look around a grouping of trees that don't quite protect errant drives from dropping off a super-steep incline into the creek below. I had hit this basket two weeks ago with a USDGC Roc but knew my arm didn't have the snap today (but for some reason the mechanics were good all day, maybe that's why I don't feel much arm pain yet). I had been working on my sidearm and am beginning to trust it some in tournaments, this hole, however really doesn't leave much choice if you want to make a serious run at the basket so after 3 years of trying RHBH with literally dozens of splash-outs, spit-thrus and general bad bounces, my first ace was thrown forehand. I even got the park guy Bud (no joke) to initial my disc as a witness- he was running a Bobcat front-end loader about 10 feet from the teepad I aced from. No more using distractions as an excuse, huh.

I hear that aces come in bunches, and I'm certainly looking forward to the next one but this one will always be my first. I wonder if I should retire the disc- 167g yellow Star Leopard.

heck no man, I still throw the disc that I made my first ace with (Pro Starfire 175) since then I've aced 2 more holes with it, it's my good luck charm.

I once had a marathon day that resulted in an Ace (only my 2nd). I played Adair County Park (18 holes), Willamette Park (18 holes), Timber Linn (9 holes), Champoeg Park ( 2 rounds of 15 ea), and then Orchard Park (2 rounds of 9). On my 88th hole of the day, I hit my 2nd ace ever. All of these courses are in Oregon in case you wanted to know

wow bill, congratulations thats awesome !! first ace hu, thats sweet, good use of mojo, did you jump around and scream like a idiot ! i did LOL, as for retiring your first ace disc, i guess its prefference, i retired mine ( gummy beast ) but as im prone to throwing multiple shots when im playing casuall for practice and walking away from my discs on occaision and loosing some very nice plastic over the years, i chose to retire mine and its hanging here in my office at work and is a nice reminder of my first ( and only ) ace and a pick me up when im having a bad day i glance up at it and think about my first ace and recent rounds and it cheers me up, a forehand shot with a leopard hu, hmm thats impressive in itself as the leopard is such a understable disc, you must have thrown that thing like majorely nose down ! i personally drive my buddys nuts with my sidewinder that i throw sidearm on a calm day, since its way understable i throw it nose down and it does one heck of a s turn and goes a mile ! no aces yet though with it LOL, hey by the way, i think i gave all your ooga booga and some of mine back, do you think you could give me just a little of your ooga booga back as last week we got rained out for the first time in doubles and i was teamed up with one the best players in our area, we would have been in the money for sure, come on dont leave me hangin, help a brotha out ! once again congratts - dc
