First Tournament of 2008

Tourney 54 occured yesterday, featuring 3 courses and all played in one day, in 8 inches of snow (at least). Started the day leaving my house at 4am to get to the course and have time to warm up, downpours and tons of snow caused an extra hour of driving time, but I wasnt late to the first round. Didn't have time to warm up, but was able to throw a couple shots before going out to our holes. I didn't get to putt. Started off the day with a bogey after a birdie drive, then missed a 20' for birdie… Continue

Opening Day 2008

This saturday (February 9th) will be the Warwick Ice Bowl, and perhaps the first tournament that I play in 2008. I spent most of my time in 2007 off, not playing tournaments, and even though I have less time to disc golf, I am not ready to completely write playing tournaments out of my life. Warwick has brought me mixed results. I won the two day animals fest playing advanced, but haven't cashed in 2 events (one of which being the Skylands NT, and the other was my first pro tourney) playing p…

Making the Most of a Rainy Day

Right now in the northeast it is raining an about 40 degrees outside. Not the ideal conditions for playing disc golf. I think we have all seen the commercial where the camera pans through tiger woods home, looking at his accolades and trophies while the pattering of rain drops can be heard. Then at the end it shows tiger outside in the pouring rain practicing in a downpour. Maybe if the temperature was warmer I would be out playing, but right now the conditions are keeping me inside. Work for me… Continue

Old Favorites

I have an 11x ROC that had a green stamp had no metallic in it, just a flat green. Then I tried to wipe the stamp off like I do on all my discs and instead of coming off entirely, it left a minty green tint of a stamp. It's now one of my favorite discs in my bag. Sure its one of those dimple/nipple top ROCs that fly like 8x's or 10x's, whichever people claim they are, but I'm not sure that its that which makes it one of my favorites. The reason it is one of my favorites is because of what happen… Continue

Keep It Simple: A movement towards mold reduction

Today I was out on the course, and I realized I had a lot of discs in the bag that did the same thing. I have always tried to practice mold reduction, but sometimes it just seemed impossible. I was auditioning a lot of discs for different roles, some of which didnt need to be exclusively filled. The following molds were in my bag: Max, Orc, Destroyer, Teerex, Sidewinder, Firebird, Teebird, Sentinel, Roc, Omega SS, Aviar, and Warlock. It wasn't what I would bring to a tournament, but I was try…
